Geena Davis

June 14, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Virginia Elizabeth “Geena” Davis (born January 21, 1956) is an Academy Award and Golden Globe-winning and Emmy-nominated American actress and former fashion model.

After graduating, Davis signed with New York’s Zoli modelling agency and served as a window mannequin for Ann Taylor. With a height of six feet and a shoe size of 9(US)/43(EUR), Davis was a striking model cast from a different mold. She was working as a model when director Sydney Pollack spotted her and cast her in Tootsie (1982) as a soap opera actress. She followed this up with roles in the short-lived television series Buffalo Bill (1983 1984), for which she also wrote an episode, and Sara (1985). Davis made a breakthrough with The Fly and Beetlejuice. She received an Oscar as Best Supporting Actress for her role in The Accidental Tourist (1988) and a Best Actress nomination for her role in Thelma and Louise (1991). Davis replaced Debra Winger for the lead in A League of Their Own. Her first starring vehicle Hero was a box office flop. Following this, Davis teamed up with then husband Renny Harlin for the box office disasters Cutthroat Island and The Long Kiss Goodnight. She and Harlin produced the films.

Davis starred in the short-lived sitcom The Geena Davis Show (2000 2001). In early 2004, she guest-starred as Grace Adler’s sister Janet on the NBC sitcom Will & Grace. She most recently starred in the ABC television series Commander in Chief as the first female President of the United States. This role garnered her a Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Drama Series in 2006, and she also was nominated for a SAG Award for Outstanding Female Actor in a Drama Series and an Emmy Award. However, almost from its premiere, the show was managed poorly by ABC. This led to two extended breaks and a substantial loss of viewers from its premiere (early in the fall, the series was the season’s most-watched new show), resulting in its cancellation during the May 2006 sweeps period.

Britney Spears holds Jayden James Spears

June 14, 2007 · Leave a Comment

britney_spears_jayden_bikini_00.jpg Britney Spears was spotted in a yellow bikini carrying Jayden James over the weekend. And I’m tempted to say she almost looks good here. But I won’t, because that would go against everything I believe in. Actually, eating peas would go against everything I believe in. Why eat peas when you can eat candy? That’s what I always say. britney_spears_jayden_bikini_01-thumb.jpg britney_spears_jayden_bikini_02-thumb.jpg britney_spears_jayden_bikini_03-thumb.jpg britney_spears_jayden_bikini_04-thumb.jpg britney_spears_jayden_bikini_05-thumb.jpg britney_spears_jayden_bikini_06-thumb.jpg britney_spears_jayden_bikini_07-thumb.jpg britney_spears_jayden_bikini_08-thumb.jpg

LeBron_and_Savannah_1_1.jpg

Congrats to LeBron James and his girlfriend, Savannah Brinson, who gave birth to the couple’s second son near Akron, Ohio this morning. Bryce Maximus James weighs 8 lbs. 6 oz. and is 21 inches long. Mom and baby are reported to be doing fine. The couple also has a 2 1/2-year-old son together. Hopefully, this new baby is the lucky charm the Cavs need to prevent a four-game sweep in this Finals series against the San Antonio Spurs. The Cavs host the Spurs tonight in Cleveland.

Today’s Blind Items–With A Little Help From AP

June 14, 2007 · Leave a Comment

A certain message board (not CDAN) on the internet has made a very important connection between the news and a VERY juicy blind item from this site.

The blind item from the NY Daily News today reminded me of this first one.

#1 This actress you have never heard of was very popular with a certain kind of guy and was often stalked. She started keeping a knife under her pillow at night. One night, her boyfriend, who is a foreign A-lister came into her room when she thought he was out of town. As he bent down to kiss her, she brought the knife up and stabbed him. Our actor was in a committed relationship at the time so nothing was said about where he was or who he was with. BUT, if you see him now with his shirt off, there is a scar along his right pectoral area that is about 2 inches wide.

This one comes from AP

#2 At a thing last week, AP was in the bathroom and a C list actress starts talking about what she had done the night before. Turns out she was hanging out with this defnitely not ugly A list film actor as far as name recognition, but in reality B list because he needs a strong cast to open well. He is heroic though. Anyway, the two of them were enjoying some adult activities and she started to do move down and do something with her mouth, when he practically screamed, “No.” In all her many experiences, she had never got that type of reaction and so decided to take a much closer look at the member in question. A raging case of warts. It was so bad that she puked right then and there and got out of the bed and room like lightning.

Twins – “20:07″ Gemini Edition June 11th to June 20th
Twin screengrabs from the 20th minute and 7th second of related movies
…and a look back at the Action Heroine Blog-a-Thon

[whistling]

“Take a hit. Be somebody baby!”

—–

And right there folks, you have it in snapshot form. This is the difference between the two halves of Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill saga: Vol I in all its brutal simplicity and stylishness and Vol. II in all its talky extranneous elongation… (why is this character even in the movie?) so as to make up for the cleaving in half.

And there you also have it… my long overdue admission: I don’t care for Vol II that much. I tried to love it, settled for admiring it a little. But I never watch it. It’s always Vol I for me. Hmmm, and there you have it again: My feelings about Grindhouse. First half (Rodriguez) very very good. Second half (Tarantino) chatty and fond of itself with way too much fat on its bones.

You just keep having it… so this train of thought must end.

The cheeky extra title of both Kill volumes combined, “The Whole Bloody Affair”, is also a wink back to Action Heroine Blog-a-Thon just past. The Bride, Buffy and Ripley were mentioned often, though not neccessarily as the focus of articles. In fact, not one blogger wrote about the vampire slayer. Imagine that. Paris Hilton Animated Diaries #3

June 14, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Paris was transferred back to Lynwood Correctional facility last night. Apparently she is “mentally stable” enough to be moved out of the Towers medical facility. They do have Paris in the medical ward of Lynwood and are waiting to move her back to her old cell. It is rumored she is on medication to help with her panic attacks and ADD. I don’t think she will be able to handle the regular jail but I do feel that is where she should be. I also don’t think it is fair that Paris gets all this attention, normal people don’t get so spoiled in jail. Most people wouldn’t even be able to get medication nor would they get to serve half their time in a medical facility that is much more comfortable than a jail cell.

LA Times reported research showing that Paris is actually serving more time than the majority of inmates in the same situation. It is funny because a week ago people were saying, no one does time for this crime. Now the truth comes out. Many people do time for this time. Maybe the judge wasn’t making an example and trying to ”be in the spotlight”, as many people accused. Is it possible he was trying to treat her how he would anyone else? Eighty percent of people serve less than 23 days for this crime. My question is, why should Paris be in the 80% who get off easy? Why do people think it is so unfair for her to serve a full sentence? She is still serving the same or less than 20% of people who were busted for this crime. Did anyone feel bad for the 20% who served their full sentence (probably more than 23 days)?

ParisExposed Lawuits, Statements and Maybe Some Backlash

June 14, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Paris has been Exposed for about two or so weeks now on the latest for-profit scandal website featuring her night-vision worthy activities, drugs, a variety of slurs and some really horrible rich-white-girl dancing. In fact, the site was used, abused, passed around the internet and then shut down via temporary court injunction (her lawsuit = she wants the materials off the web but she also wants part of the profits). I just had deja vu. Funny thing is – only the Paris-loathing gossip blogs picked up the story. In a world where Mel Gibson’s drunken Jew-rant to a police officer made headline news as quick as the officer could write it up in a police report, Michael Richards made his first widespread appearance since Seinfeld via cell phone video camera after using the N word about 2931 times too many and last but not least, Isaiah Washington was plastered across the news for weeks and ended up in rehab for calling his gay costar a homo the F word — where the hell is the mainstream Paris backlash? Paris’ videos featured her using anti-sematic language, the n word, the f word, making fun of poor people, making fun of people from the ghetto, making fun of people in public school (even though she dropped out of her private school) basically insulting everyone else in the entire world except herself and her sister.Well hopefully this is the beginning of the end of Paris. CNN featured their first video/commentary (#1 video download) on Paris and her slurs and now GLADD President Neil G. Giuliano has issued a statement: These are not frivolous words, and to use them as if they are gives tacit sanction to the racism and homophobia they engender. Hilton has an obligation to go on the record, explain herself, and publicly apologise to the LGBT and African American communities and all those offended by these slurs.

…and it wouldn’t be a xine post about Paris Hilton without featuring my favorite character, her diaper changer and publicist, Elliot Mintz. For once, Elliot exits his constant state of denial and says: I m not going to make any attempt to spin this. It happened. I m not going to deny it happened..” of course he couldn’t stop there. That would just be too much for one day. He had to try to justify her actions by finishing his statement with: “Each of us has used words we have regretted later. This was six years ago. She was 20 at the time. It was New Year s Eve. She had been obviously drinking. She sincerely regrets using those words. She is not a racist or an anti-Semite.” So Elliot, you’re basically telling me that she sounds like a racist anti-semite when she’s drinking and she’s sorry that people heard her? Here’s an old adage that I believe came from a man on the side of the Pacific Coast Highway last one night: once a drunken anti-semite always a drunken anti-semite.
